It explores why they were forced to leave their countries of birth and it describes some of the methods used to escape; their struggle to settle and the countless typical problems encountered throughout their adjustment to the new land; as well as the refugees’ constant drive to travel to their birthplaces and back. About the author
José M. Borgoño, who taught at the Universidad de Chile for over a decade, was forced to flee his country in early 1974, following the bloody military coup that overthrew President Allende in September 1973. Borgoño settled in Toronto and successively worked as an ESL teacher, counselor, social worker and member of the Immigration and Refugee Board.
