Do you have trauma-affected learners in your class? Then join us as we learn how to integrate trauma-informed practices in LINC and adult ESL classrooms to create supportive learning environments.
We’ll also explore strategies for addressing the unique challenges faced by trauma-affected learners, fostering emotional safety, and promoting resilience.
Through case studies and practical techniques, teachers will gain insights into how empathetic teaching approaches can empower learners and enhance their language acquisition.
Attendees will earn 4 (four) Professional Development hours for their participation.
Meet our Presenter:
Ruba Kallab is a TESL Ontario certified teacher and a graduate of the Sheridan TESOL Plus Program. She holds an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from York University and is currently a PhD candidate in Language and Literacies Education at OISE, University of Toronto. She teaches in the ESL/EAP programs at both Sheridan College and Conestoga College. Ruba brings a wealth of experience to her role, specializing in language assessment as both an IELTS examiner and a CLB assessor.
Her dedication to inclusive education is evident in her close collaboration with refugee students, for whom she tailors her teaching to address their unique linguistic and cultural needs. Ruba has shared her expertise as a conference presenter at the TESL Ontario 2023 and 2024 Online Conferences, the TESL Ontario 2024 Webinar Series, and internationally at the IATEFL 2024 Live Conference in Brighton, UK, as well as the upcoming IATEFL 2025 Conference in Edinburgh. She has also presented at the 2025 For the Love of Literacy webinar in Calgary and 2025 Languages Without Borders in Montreal, further showcasing her commitment to advancing language education across Canada.
