Respect and Reconciliation: A Training for Language Instructors

  • What is the Respect and Reconciliation training about, and what’s included?
  • How will this training help me become more confident while teaching Indigenous topics in my classes?
  • What are some authentic and level-appropriate materials I can use in my class?

This session introduces a self-directed online course that helps ESL instructors integrate Indigenous history and perspectives into their teaching. Participants will explore the course structure, key content, online components, and classroom-ready resources designed to support inclusive instruction across CLB levels.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • describe the purpose, structure, and key content areas of the Respect and Reconciliation training program hosted on Avenue.ca,
  • navigate the four eUnits and accompanying instructor handbook to locate classroom-ready lesson plans and resources, and
  • identify ways to integrate Indigenous history, perspectives, and topics into core ESL instruction with greater confidence.

About the Presenter

Dori Tarjan (she/her) is an educator and curriculum developer with extensive experience teaching LINC/ESL to adult newcomers in Canada. She specializes in designing engaging eLearning courses and instructor training that support practical communication and inclusive learning. Her work focuses on creating accessible, learner-centered online and blended learning experiences.

Nadine Leggett (they/them) is a certified PMP project manager at Achēv, and college professor. They have a strong interest in building education and training programs that enable learning and growth for students to reach their goals and fulfill their potential.
