TESL Ontario offers relevant and timely resources for educators, administrators, trainers and researchers in the field of English language education.
We invite members of the TESL community to share their research, innovative ideas, practices, and expertise through our popular publications.
TESL Ontario publications are promoted to the TESL Ontario community via member email and shared with a vast following of TESL educators via social media.
Contact Magazine
Contact magazine is published online three times a year to meet the needs of various ESL/ELD constituencies. Information related to elementary, secondary, university and college, credit, non-credit, adult and LINC programs is conveyed through articles, language profiles, conference proceedings, letters and book reviews in a theme-based format. Settlement and community agencies are profiled on a regular basis, increasing awareness of available services and common issues.
Contact magazine encourages contributions of all kinds. We primarily publish teacher-oriented articles, but we will consider a wide range of submissions for publication, from poems to interviews, whatever you think other teachers would be interested in.
What Are the Writing Guidelines?
Articles will typically
- be from 1000 – 3000 words in length
- follow the APA guidelines for headings, citations, and references
- be written in an approachable style with a teacher audience in mind (Contact is not a peer-reviewed academic journal)
- related to English-language teaching
- include a personal contribution (we do not publish straight-up summaries of published work)
- include a statement of ethical review and informed consent if it includes primary research
- be accepted for publication by the editor and
- be subject to minor editing to conform with the publication standards.
What’s in it for Me?
- Contributors whose submissions are published will be credited with five (5) professional development hours that can be used for renewal of TESL Ontario accredited membership
- All contributors retain copyright of their respective articles
- Have published work exposure – articles promoted on all TESL Ontario social media networks

How Do I Submit an Article?

Guest Bloggers
Minimum 1-year commitment
TESL Ontario continuously accepts applications for guest bloggers to join us in expanding this supportive online community that shares knowledge, resources, lesson plan ideas, teaching techniques, and technology finds with the TESL community.
What’s Involved?
Writers are required to
- be an active TESL Ontario member
- have previous experience with blogging or other publication writing (preferred but not necessary)
- commit to submitting one blog post every 4 – 6 weeks
- commit to a one-year volunteer term
- work with blog administrators during the editing process to finalize the post for publication, and
- respond to comments on blog posts.
What Are the Writing Guidelines?
Blog posts will
- be between 350 – 700 words in length,
- follow the APA guidelines,
- be written in the first person,
- have names of students and colleagues changed for privacy reasons, and
- be reviewed by blog administrators prior to posting and are subject to minor editing to conform with the publication standards.
What’s in it for Me?
- Receive credit for professional development that will cover the entire PD requirement for one year

How Do I Submit a Post?
- Complete the online application form.
- Attach a minimum of 2 writing samples. One sample must be an original proposed blog post written for the TESL Ontario blog. (Samples can be submitted as files or links to existing blog posts written by you.)
- TESL Ontario will review all applications with a view to choosing members from varying teaching sectors and specialties to complement our existing team.
- Successful applicants will be contacted directly to arrange telephone interviews within 4 weeks.

Occasional Bloggers
No long-term commitment
In addition to regular weekly blog posts from our guest bloggers, there is a special section of the TESL Ontario blog titled Reflections from the Field. This section is open to all TESL Ontario members to submit a blog post about personal and professional achievements, success stories, motivational stories, and experiences that make working in the language training field rewarding.
What’s Involved?
Writers must
- be an active TESL Ontario member
- submit a minimum of 1 blog post up to a maximum of 3 posts per year
- work with blog administrators during the editing process to finalize the post for publication, and
- respond to comments on blog posts.
What Are the Writing Guidelines?
Blog posts will
- be between 350 – 700 words in length

- be written in the first person
- be written as a personal reflection / story / experience related to English language training
- have names of students and colleagues changed for privacy reasons
- be subject to approval and will be reviewed by blog administrators prior to posting, and
- be subject to minor editing to conform with the publication standards.

- Contributors whose posts are chosen for publication will be provided with a certificate for 2 hours of professional development that can be used for renewal of TESL Ontario accredited membership.

- Grow your personal learning network.
How Do I Submit a Post?
- Blog posts should be submitted using the online submission form.
- Attach a Microsoft word doc version of your submission.
- All submissions are subject to approval by the blog administration team.
- Approvals will be notified by email within 4 weeks.
Note: Occasional Bloggers will be credited as “Guest Contributor” on their posts, however full author name, bio and applicable social media links will be included in the body of the post, as well as on social media promotions.
