Integrating Into the Canadian Workplace With Ease

Angela Spadafora, OCELT & Natalie Piergentili, OCELT
April 24, 2025
8:00 – 9:00 pm EDT

How can we encourage students to share their challenges in securing employment? In what ways can we provide them with valuable insights on navigating the Canadian job market? Can this approach keep students actively engaged but also foster problem-solving skills? How can we better equip students with the tools and strategies necessary to independently continue their job search?

Adopting a human-centered approach, we engaged in action research with our students to explore the key factors they wished they had known prior to arriving in Canada, specifically in relation to employment. To address these needs, we developed a targeted assessment and designed instructional materials aimed at facilitating students’ integration into the Canadian workforce.

The learning outcomes from this webinar are:

  • to develop skill in teaching about informational interviews and LinkedIn,
  • to practice using the STAR interview method for interview responses, and
  • to understand the role of active listening in the customer service process.
